What a beautiful sight on a Monday morning! The field of flags are in honor of Oklahomans effected by child abuse.
Week 11 - HD 100 Legislative Session Update: link in profile
This morning, we recognized the life of our colleague, Representative David Brumbaugh.
The Pastor of the day quoted Psalm 23 during his prayer - what great words to remember this morning. Please continue to keep Shelley, Abby & Hannah in your prayers.
The galleries are filled with members of the Oklahoma National Guard as we are in Joint Session to honor the members of the 45th Infantry.
Currently, there are 900 members of the Oklahoma National Guard that are deployed.
Freedom isn't free. Keep these men, women, & their families in your prayers.
View from where I sit this morning in the House Chamber - today we passed four pieces of legislation off the House floor, presented citations to several constituents, thanked the Pages, and will head into budget meetings for the rest of the day.
Today is 4-H Day in Oklahoma!
This 4-H student quoted Will Rogers when he addressed the House of Representatives this afternoon: "ain't but one thing wrong with everyone in this world, and that's selfishness." Such a great group of young Oklahoma leaders!
It's testing week! Because of legislation passed last year, the only state mandated test is the US History test in high school. All other tests for 3-12th grade are mandates from the federal government.
Hey Oklahoma County! Don't forget to get out to vote in the primary for Oklahoma County Sheriff! Polls close at 7.
Week 7 - 2017 Legislative Session update (link in profile)
The House is currently doing round robin Appropriations & Budget Sub Committee meetings. While I currently serve as the Vice Chair of A&B Select Agencies, today we joined with the members of A&B Education to hear from the A&B General Government committee. This is part of the process that is helping members get a good grasp of each area of Oklahoma's appropriations process.
Today is Disability Awareness Day at the Capitol! It was great to see neighbors like Jason (who works to get folks into the work force & off of social security), Pam (who is a great advocate for the blind at DRS), and Jacob (who is a Disability Program Specialist with the Office of Disability Concerns). I’m proud of these folks who work hard to serve Oklahomans with disabilities!
What a sunrise over House District 100 this morning!
Going through mail today - Gwen sends me a note every month or so to let me know she's praying for me. I'm grateful for such kind constituents, neighbors & friends in House District 100.
As the House wraps up work on House bills today, I'm reading essays submitted for the Treasurer's "Making a Difference" essay contest.
They received over 500 essays & the winners will receive a $1529 contribution to their Oklahoma 529 College Savings Plan. Honored to have been selected as one of the five judges for the contest!
It's a deadline week at the Oklahoma House of Representatives - we're still in session working through legislation!
